What is the Difference Between DELF and DALF?

Both are official French proficiency diplomas, but they cater to different levels. DELF certifies beginner to intermediate, while DALF certifies advanced language skills.

DELF (Levels A1 - B2)

Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française. Measures French skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) for daily communication and entry into professional life. Undergraduate programs in France usually require a B2 level.

DALF (Levels C1 - C2)

Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française. Measures fluent and independent French usage at academic and professional levels. Required for master's, PhD programs, and high-level positions in Francophone countries.

No. Unlike IELTS or TOEFL, there is no 2-year validity period. DELF and DALF diplomas are valid for life.
Usually, a DELF B2 level is mandatory for undergraduate (Licence) programs. DALF C1 may be required for Master's and some specific departments (Law, Medicine).
