What is TestDaF and Why is it Important?
TestDaF is an official and internationally recognized exam that proves the German language proficiency of those who want to pursue higher education or an academic career in Germany.
University Admission Standard:
Almost all public and private universities in Germany officially recognize the TestDaF exam for admission to German-taught programs.
TDN Level System:
The exam results in a level (TDN 3, TDN 4, TDN 5) rather than a pass/fail. Universities generally require at least TDN 4 (between B2-C1) in all sections.
TestDaF Exam Format
TestDaF can be administered digitally (Digitaler TestDaF) or paper-based. It measures 4 basic language skills and takes about 3 hours.
Leseverstehen (Reading) - 60 Mins
3 reading texts and 30 questions. Measures your ability to understand university life, magazine articles, and academic texts.
Hörverstehen (Listening) - 40 Mins
3 listening texts and 25 questions. Includes campus dialogues, radio interviews, and academic lecture recordings.
Schriftlicher Ausdruck (Writing) - 60 Mins
1 task. You are asked to analyze data based on a given graph, table, or statistic and write an argumentative text on the topic.
Mündlicher Ausdruck (Speaking) - 35 Mins
7 different tasks. Recorded via computer. Includes scenarios such as situations in campus life and graph interpretation.
